Gloria Movie Review

Why is the age of a woman is not full of life?

Why not a female of 58 years old? And why should not they go to the disco? Gloria, the protagonist of the film of the same name, sees no reason why they do things. And this film very Director Chile Sebastián Lelio gives absolutely right.

Gloria was the wife unsatisfied. He is separated by only ten years ago, after his wife had a breakdown and left the family, but marriage brought her two sons, he still has a good relationship. He is now a grandmother, has a good job, a nice apartment and goes regularly with friends. His life was so well organized, but most want to have someone to share his life. She often goes to the disco where Chileans who gather to dance to pop music of his youth. One day he meets with Rodolfo, a divorced man now wants to enjoy their freedom. After a romantic evening (which Lelio director does not hesitate to show the old naked bodies of the two protagonists) Gloria called Rodolfo, who has been in love with him. Start your relationship, which was challenged by the fact that Rodolfo feels guilty about the fact that he left his family.

No Midlife Crisis
The greatest strength of the film is the Gloria never shown as a woman who is in a midlife crisis. This shows that older people can also enjoy (dancing) good music, sex, alcohol, paintball and joints. The film argues that older people have the same right to have fun like children. That may seem not very understanding, but one that appears in very few films. The average cliché (Hollwood) film about a woman as Gloria would be a skimpy light comedy of a depressed woman who wants to explore her wild side. After much experimentation for the most part, the film then ends with much sentimentality to realize that women than their younger years, receive their age and behaves like, according to the film, old woman should behave. Gloria gets contrast Director Lelio full freedom to act as they want, without having passed the number of trial. This sometimes leads to happiness and sometimes not, something that the film is very realistic ..

happily
The film will not work without a good performance Paulina Garcia, who plays Gloria. No wonder he received earlier this year the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival. He knows how to elicit sympathy because they always know to leave the impression that it is a beautiful normal girl who wants nothing abnormal. He just wants to have a good life. Garcia also always gives the impression that would be fine with Gloria. Sometimes they have setbacks, and sometimes sad, but never falls into despair.

Gloria as a metaphor for Chile
Lelio has tried to Gloria lives in the context of a change of Chile. Instead, social anxiety in young Chilean life will mirror that Gloria. Not much wrong with the social situation in Chile. Surely it is better than before, when Pinochet was in power. But modern youth of Chile are not satisfied with "better than under Pinochet." They realize that there is only a small amount of living in a nice country needs. As required by Gloria, but a few minutes to have a wonderful life. Gloria and her attempt to do something about it, for example by means of protest. The idea of using Gloria as a kind of metaphor for Chile is interesting, but unfortunately it is not. The scenes hanging elaborated a bit and his brother, as an upstairs neighbor Gloria subplotje having a breakdown. The scenes are or could be solved more or better omitted.

conclusion
Gloria is a great film about an elderly woman to realize he has a good life for themselves where they often tries to enjoy. Thanks to poor development of the main character and the magnificent performance of the lead actress Paulina García received much sympathy for Gloria. Director Lelio his life trying to imitate the social situation of Chile. That does not really work, but the idea is good. If it worked, the film is a masterpiece. Today it is a good movie, seeing more than worth it.
